We're pleased to welcome the Beacon After School Program throughout the week . This ministry began six years ago here at Trinity and currently serves over forty children in grades 2-6 from the Ashland City Schools. We are blessed to have three members of our congregation leading the way: Program Director, Charmaine Kaylor, and teachers Jenny Pence, and Lindsey Buren. Our teachers share the love of Christ as they help with homework, tell Bible stories, and lead many exciting activities. If you'd like to learn more about this ministry, please contact Charmaine Kaylor at basktcasaolcom or through the church office at 419-289-2126.
Our Mission Statement
- While Trinity Lutheran Church is a traditional Lutheran parish with traditional Lutheran worship, our ministry does not stop there. We believe that doing for others in our community is also our mission as a congregation. Jesus tells us to "go and do".
- We strive to reach children who meet several criteria, who might otherwise fall throught the cracks, helping them gain the tools to succeed and build self-esteem.
- These elementary-aged children from the Ashland City Schools are referred to us by the schools' liaisons.
- Our curriculum will include Bible lessons, crafts, recreation, homework time, outreach, special guests, and a healthy snack in a safe and loving environment.
- We will help guide each child's moral compass in a loving and Christian manner.
Our Staff
Charmaine Kaylor
Director
I have had the pleasure of raising three girls with my loving husband, Jack. Our oldest daughter, Tanya, is married to Chad Van Scyoc. Candace is an art teacher and engaged. Lauren is a sophomore at the University of Akron.
We have been trinity members for 18 years and I’ve taught Sunday School here that long. I love being the first step of the two-year-olds’ lifelong journey with Christ.
As an empty nester, I enjoy working with the Beacon After School Program children daily. I also enjoy art of all kinds, cooking ethnic foods, gardening, reading, family time, walking, and traveling to experience new things.
Jen Pence, 5th & 6th Grade Teacher - This is my second year at the Beacon Program. My husband, Shawn, and I have been married for five years. I have been a member of Trinty since 1989 and I am also the toddler nursery supervisor here. I am the math coach at Cornerstone Elementary in Wooster.
Lindsey Buren, Learning Center - This is my first year with the Beacon program and I'm excited to be here. I am a sophomore at Ashland University majoring in Child and Family Studies. I have been a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church since the age of 12.
Cheryl Benway, Family Friends Network - I have worked with the Beacon program since March of 2007, in the homework room and now I have a new role with the Beacon program. My husband, Chuck, and I have been active members of Trinity for 14 years. We have two children, Rachel, in 6th grade, and Adam, in 4th grade. I'm looking forward to ministering directly with our Beacon families.
